Champion Rotary/CHS Interact Safety Town is a 5 day program for students registered to enter kindergarten in Champion in the fall of each year.

2018 Champion Safety Town

Thursday - Champion Fire Department

Champion Firefighters Stephen Kisak and Ben Glosser visited Safety Town. Firefighters showed Safety Towners their safety equipment and their fire engine. The firefighters showed Safety Towners what they look like in their full gear. The firefighters taught Safety Towners lots of important rules for the entire family. The Safety Towners practiced their listening, driving and sharing skills in Safety Town. The Safety Towners worked on a fun craft.

Wednesday - Animal Safety

Karen France of the Animal Welfare League gave a wonderful lesson to Safety Towners; Safety Towners also practiced walking in straight, safe lines and practiced their listening, sharing and kindness skills in Safety Town. Safety Towners also learned more ASL and practiced what they have already learned.

Tuesday - Poison Control/Medicine Safety & Recycle, Reuse Day

Safety Towners planted bean seeds in k-cups and learned about the importance of reuse, recycle, reduce. More friends from the Care Crew were on hand to greet the Safety Towners. Cathy Loomis of COMPASS taught Safety Towners about the importance of not touching medicine and always ask an adult before touching or putting something in their mouths that may look like candy. 
Rotarian and friend of Safety Town Mary Jo Ohlin, MJO Photography, captured history with her camera in Safety Town. ASL lessons continued and Safety Towners put their knowledge to good use. Safety Towners rode their ket cars, followed multi-step directions while delivering mail, collecting recycling, and planting flowers. Safety Towners practiced kindness, sharing and listening. 

Monday - Welcome to Central Day

Central Elementary friends and Rotarians greeted Safety Towners and led a tour along with members of the CES Care Crew.  Safety Towners met their Interact Leaders and did a fun craft. Safety Towners met Champion bus drivers and were treated to a bus ride with their Interact Leaders. Safety Towners learned what to do and what not to do when it comes to the bus. Safety Towners went over playground rules and enjoyed guided play. Safety Towners also practiced walking in straight, safe lines and practiced their listening, sharing and kindness skills in Safety Town.

2017 Champion Safety Town

Friday - Champion Police Department/Captain McFinn

The Champion Police Department visited Safety Town.  Safety Towners learned about being safe in the car, in the neighborhood and at school. Safety Towners learned about 9-1-1, when to call for help and how to do it. Safety Towners practiced traffic and pedestrian rules in Safety Town. They delivered mail, picked up recycling and planted flowers.
Captain McFinn from the Eastwood Mall visited Safety Town. He taught Safety Towners about feeling safe and being a good friend.

The firefighters taught Safety Towners lots of important rules for the entire family. The Safety Towners practiced their listening, driving and sharing skills in Safety Town. The Safety Towners worked on a fun craft.

Wednesday - Recycling and K-Cup Seed Project

Holly Carnine from Geauga-Trumbull Solid Waste visited and taught Safety Towners how to keep our earth clean and safe for everyone. Safety Towners made fun muffin paper flowers. Safety Towners planted bean seeds in k-cups and learned about the importance of reuse, recycle, reduce. Safety Towners rode their ket cars, followed multistep directions while delivering mail, collecting recycling, and planting flowers. Safety Towners practiced kindness, sharing and listening.

Tuesday - Animal Safety and Hand Washing

Karen France of the Animal Welfare League gave a wonderful lesson to Safety Towners; Brooklynn Ramsey (CHS class of 2016, founding member of Safety Town, YSU student and Rotaract member) returned to Safety Town as a mentor and presenter. Rotarian Mary Jo Ohlin, owner of MJO Photography, came to Safety Town to create identikits for the Safety Towners. Safety Towners also practiced walking in straight, safe lines and practiced their listening, sharing and kindness skills in Safety Town.

Champion Rotary Safety Town is June 5 - 9. Champion Rotary/CHS Interact Club Safety Town is an annual program that has been designed to directly serve children who are registered as Champion kindergarten students in the fall of each school year.   Check back throughout the week to view the gallery.

Although the program is offered free of charge, students must be pre-registered to attend. NO WALK-INS ARE PERMITTED.
