Champion Alumni spins sugar into magic for a good cause

All of the sweetness is spun for a great cause; the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation benefits from donations from the public who visit the display each year. To date over $1,000,000 has been donated to the JDRF through the funds collected at the annual exhibit.
John W. Armstrong IV, CHS class of 1993, has achieved many amazing accomplishments throughout his culinary career. Currently the Executive Chef at the Seattle Sheraton, Chef Armstrong has a special place in his heart for the annual project that has become a staple of the Seattle holiday season. A team of professionals, chefs and architects, work together to create one of the most amazing gingerbread worlds the world has ever seen. For over two decades the Sheraton has featured a themed gingerbread and candy display.  Armstrong has lead his team in the creation of intricate, moving, lit displays that have captured the hearts of visitors year after year. Each year the theme challenges these artists to stretch their imaginations and their skills.  This year the focus was on the wonderful world of #ElfLife.

The Great City of Seattle

Harry Potter Masterpieces

In 2016, He who should not be named was no match for these muggles. The boy who lived under the stairs, his friends and enemies,  and the world they inhabit delighted visitors of all ages. In the words of our favorite groundskeeper: "You are a wizard...John!"
