Providing the Gift of Time: Friends of the ElderlyBECAUSE NO ONE SHOULD BE ISOLATED BY AGE
The Guardian Angels volunteer program reaches out in friendship to people who are elderly and alone in Trumbull County by providing trained, qualified volunteers to serve as advocates and occasionally as legal guardians who provide services that promote health, dignity, independence, and quality of life.
Guardian Angel volunteers reach out as friends to seniors who may need a friendly phone call, a visit in a nursing home, or a visit at home. All the Angel volunteers are qualified, well-trained, have references, undergo a background check, and have signed a letter of confidentiality.
The Guardian Angels also plan special events for seniors and are actively involved with local health and senior fairs.
The Guardian Angels provide several volunteer opportunities:
A FRIENDLY VISITOR OF THE COURT would make visits to various wards of the Court, either in their homes or in a facility. This volunteer listens to and talks with the ward to assess their care and treatment in their current living arrangements.
A HELP GUARDIAN is a volunteer who assists the guardian to meet the needs and desires of the ward, be it errands, respite, or simply visiting the ward on a regular basis.
A GUARDIAN is a court appointed individual who makes decisions on another's behalf once they have been deemed by the Probate Court to be incompetent to handle their own affairs. The responsibilities of a guardian may include decisions regarding medical care, living arrangements, and in some cases, financial matters.
