Invention convention fosters creativity; teamwork

The 8th grade of Champion Middle School recently showed off their creative minds with the Invention Convention. This event is a project for the 8th grade, where teams of students come up with a unique solution to a common problem. Then, they had to make a prototype of their invention, and finally, a poster board and sales pitch. The convention was attended by the other grade levels at CMS as well as parents and other members of the community. Attendees were given tickets to vote for their favorite inventions. Then, they walked around the gym, where some of the young inventors tried to obtain their votes by presenting their sales pitch. The team who received the most votes at the end of the day won the competition. But, it wasn’t so easy deciding who to vote for. There was almost every type of invention you could imagine. Phone cases, book bags, even chocolate bars. One of the groups even made a fishing pole with three poles so you could catch more fish. This year’s winning invention was called Pop n’ Sip, a combined popcorn bowl and drink holder for use at movie theaters. Overall, the Invention Convention was a good experience for both the 8th graders and everyone who attended. A special thanks goes to the 8th grade teachers for organizing the Invention Convention.
