Champion Middle School Science  awarded Ohio Environmental Educator Certificate

Champion Middle School Science teacher David Murduck was recently awarded an Ohio Environmental Educator Certificate. This year, only three certificates were awarded to formal or informal educators around the state of Ohio. Awardees received their awards at the annual Environmental Education Conference at Deer Creek State park near Columbus, Ohio. Currently, there are only about one-hundred Environmental Education certified professionals in the state of Ohio. To receive the certification educators had to attend extensive training at Old Women Creek National Estuary in Huron, Ohio. They then had to incorporate environmental lessons inside and outside of their classroom while adhering to Ohio standards in Science. Advised by Mr. Murduck, Champion Middle school students actively participate in stewardship projects in the community. Projects have included planting milkweed and pollinator seeds, building and erecting bluebird nest boxes, cutting invasive species, and designing environmental educational signs that have been placed at the Trumbull County Education and Agriculture Center.
