Champion Central Elementary Principal Earns Prestigious National Honor

Alexandra Nannicola, Principal of Champion Central Elementary, Champion Local School District has been selected as Ohio’s 2016 National Distinguished Principal. The 2016 celebration marks the 32nd year that the National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP) has presented this prestigious award.  
“Mrs. Nannicola was nominated and selected by her fellow principals through a statewide search process conducted by the Ohio Association of Elementary School Administrators.” said Dr. Julie Davis, OAESA Executive Director. Following an extensive application process and interviews, two principals visited Mrs. Nannicola at her school. Comments from the visiting team included, “Passion!! Passion is the word used by staff members, colleagues, parents and community members alike….a warrior seeking change for her students. Mrs. Nannicola looks for solutions to make things better. One of her students stated, “Mrs. Nannicola keeps everything in order and helps us to keep advancing to the next level. “
Since 1925, the Ohio Association of Elementary School Administrators has served as Ohio’s professional educational association and now represents over 1,000 elementary, middle-level, and central office administrators serving grades Pre-K through eight throughout the state. OAESA maintains close ties with the metropolitan Washington, D.C.-based National Association of Elementary School Principals and its 23,000 members worldwide.  
Mrs. Nannicola will receive her Ohio Award during the OAESA Professional Conference scheduled to take place on June 17 in Columbus. In October, Mrs. Nannicola will travel to Washington, D.C. for two days of activities planned to honor and bring well-deserved recognition to elementary and middle-level educators chosen by the states, the District of Columbia, plus private and overseas schools. She will also be honored at the Ohio School Board Association Convention held in Columbus in November. Locally she will be honored at the Champion Board of Education meeting held in at Champion High School in the High School Media Center on Monday, May 16 at 7:00 P.M. The Board meeting is open to the community.
