SCOPE’s Newest Center At Trumbull Career & Technical Center

SCOPE Senior Services has partnered with the Trumbull Career & Technical Center (TCTC) to open a new Senior Center at the school located in Champion off Route 45 just east of Kent State University near the Rt. 5/82 outerbelt.

SCOPE has been operating a Champion Senior Center in a retail plaza next to Handyman Hardware for a few years. We first want to thank the plaza’s owner Mr. Brianard who has worked with SCOPE through the years. It became too small and expensive to operate a site in that setting and SCOPE was going to close the Champion Center.

Family & Community Services (F&CS) which took ownership of SCOPE in 2013 wanted to keep the center open even after funding was cut in half due to low participation levels. SCOPE’s new Assistant Director Mike Wilson was tasked in finding alternatives to the retail site. Mike’s good friend is Jason Gray who happens to be the Superintendent of TCTC and they were discussing the need to connect together to help provide lunches to our members. Mr. Gray offered to relocate SCOPE inside his adult education wing which is not as busy during the daytime hours and at a great rental rate. The Trumbull County Commissioners and its Senior Services Council has approved additional funding to support this new concept in senior centers.

SCOPE now has a room located right off the lobby at Door B (with the accessible ramp under the canopy) on the south side of the complex. The center has a great view of the courtyard as evidenced from the photo above.

SCOPE Center at TCTC hours are 10 am till 3pm. SCOPE’s Membership Director Ranea Sutliff has done a great job with the transition over the past few months and will be the center’s Manager.

For members interested in the new center, please contact the SCOPE Center at TCTC at 330-847-0503 extension 1638.
