CHAMPION COMMUNITY CALENDAR

Champion Trustees receive renderings

At the Dec.4 Champion Township meeting, Trustees received the renderings of the potential future Champion Township government building and park. The renderings had been ordered by the Trustees at the September 2017 township meeting from B.S.H.M. Architects. This firm was also contracted by Champion Local Schools for work on the new Pre-K-8 complex currently under construction. The renderings are currently on display at the Champion Township offices and will be placed at different locations over the coming months.

The renderings are intended as a concept for our future centralized administrative buildings. They also allow for a starting point for future plans of community development in accordance with the comprehensive plan. Although the proposed building could be located elsewhere in Champion, Jay Crafton from B.S.H.M. Architects explained that the Township Government Building was drawn on the current Central property. This design respected the importance of the current soccer fields and playground on that property.
Design elements include: a common entrance, township offices and community meeting room, a new fire station with additional space for modern-sized fire trucks and equipment, as well as a new police station with multi-purpose sally port/vehicle wash area.
The community park design was also stated to be a starting point for a conversation. Other design features could be included as the needs of the community change. The proposed park area would be located on the 66 acres of township property purchased in 2003 by the Trustees, surrounding the new Pre-K-8 complex. The design would connect the greenway bike trail to the park. Other possible design features include: outdoor walking paths, an amphitheater, a children's playground area similar to “Imagination Station” in Bazetta township, multiple “land lab” areas, bird watching areas, pavilions and a gazebo that could serve as an outdoor community gathering location.
