In March of 2006 a car with three Hiram College students, Grace Chamberlain, Evan DaSilva and Ken’s son Andy was struck by a drunk driver with eleven previous DUI convictions. Andy and Grace lost their lives. Evan DaSilva recovered from serious injuries and went on the graduate from Hiram College.
Ken has become an advocate in encouraging and enforcing change in past and current DUI law. In remembrance of the wonderful young man Andy who senselessly lost his life, Ken has established a scholarship in his son’s name awarded each year to a deserving Champion High School Senior.
In addition and alongside with the parent of Grace Chamberlain, the Run for Grace and Andy was established at Hiram College. Funds raised by the Run aid Hiram students.
Pastor Ken Hopkins is a man of integrity, a true servant to the Champion community, a true man of God, a man of humble spirit and kindness.
