CHAMPION COMMUNITY CALENDAR

Rotary Senior Citizen of the Year named at Annual Fall Fest

Ken Hopkins has been active within the Champion Community for well over 20 years. He is pastor at Champion Christian Church where he maintains an open door policy to anyone who wishes to seek direction or counseling. A crowning jewel to the new Champion Christian Church Building addition is a child care center called the Wonder Zone and the Disciple Center. He also supports and volunteers in many community events and programs including:

Champion Pride Council
Champion Network Council
Champion Rotary Memorial Day Service
Veteran’s Day Program
Scouting
The Second Harvest Food Bank
Food Program through his church
Trustee for Woodland Meadows Champion Senior Housing
In March of 2006 a car with three Hiram College students, Grace Chamberlain, Evan DaSilva and Ken’s son Andy was struck by a drunk driver with eleven previous DUI convictions. Andy and Grace lost their lives. Evan DaSilva recovered from serious injuries and went on the graduate from Hiram College.
Ken has become an advocate in encouraging and enforcing change in past and current DUI law. In remembrance of the wonderful young man Andy who senselessly lost his life, Ken has established a scholarship in his son’s name awarded each year to a deserving Champion High School Senior.

In addition and alongside with the parent of Grace Chamberlain, the Run for Grace and Andy was established at Hiram College. Funds raised by the Run aid Hiram students.
Pastor Ken Hopkins is a man of integrity, a true servant to the Champion community, a true man of God, a man of humble spirit and kindness.

REVEREND KEN HOPKINS IS THE SENIOR CITIZEN OF THE YEAR 2019
The event is made possible by Champion Schools' BOE and the great work of the members of the Champion Schools Senior Citizens Advisory Council. A multitude of community members attended, enjoying a wonderful lunch served by the CMS Student Council members as well as the talents of the Champion Middle School Performing Artists.
